2002年,遴選上政大實驗小學校長一職,直到任期屆滿,負笈英格蘭布里斯托大學(University of Bristol)攻讀國際與比較教育博士學程。2007年擔任布里斯托大學台灣同學會會長,同時擔任中華民國旅英同學會(SUROCUK)總會長(許多人以為擔任會長是為未來仕途鋪路,其實是出於無奈)。在學期間,在國際研討會發表過教育政策相關論文10篇(如附錄)。入學三年七個月後,完成博士論文並通過口試,順利取得教育哲學博士。

畢業時,獲得比較教育學會與歐洲教育研究學會聯合推薦,任美國教育部專案研究助理研究員;對岸也有三所大學向我招手。但是,身為長子的我,考慮雙親年事已高,奉養雙親成為責無旁貸的義務,所以回台灣了。

「少年十五二十時,步行奪得胡馬騎。射殺中山白額虎,肯數鄴下黃鬚兒……」 是的,年少入學時,誠如王維老將行中的豪情壯志。每每晚點名時,扯破嗓門、聲嘶力竭地唱著軍歌;似乎我們嘹亮的歌聲,可以一聲轉戰三千里,一劍曾當百萬師。而今僧廬下聽雨,兩鬢星星也,感嘆聲中,嗔怨悲歡離合總無情。
